A. Constitution of Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC)

On the basis of Notification No. VU/ R/ IEC-08/ Noti/ 1255/ 2012 dated 08.12.2012, pertaining to re-constitution of the Human Ethics Committee and Animal Ethics Committee of Vidyasagar University, it is hereby notified again that pursuant to the meeting dated 03.04.2014 regarding the reconstitution of the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) merging the Human Ethics Committee and Animal Ethics Committee, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of this University has reconstituted the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of Vidyasagar University.

B. Objective of Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC)

The aim of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act 1960 is to ensure and facilitate scientific research involving experiments on animals and non-invasive work on humans. The IEC will review and monitor all such work by assessing project proposals. The IEC will follow CPCSEA guidelines for animal work and ICMR protocols for human non-invasive experiments.

C. Composition of Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC)

  1. One In-house Biological Scientist as Chairman
  2. One Scientist-in-Charge of the Animal Facility and Member Secretary (In-house Biological Scientist)
  3. Two biological scientists from different biological disciplines
  4. One consultant veterinarian
  5. One Medical Officer/Practitioner
  6. Two scientists from outside the Institute
  7. One socially aware person
  8. One CPCSEA nominee
  9. One Link CPCSEA nominee
